16 Hacks For Better Sleep

Have water accessible

when you find yourself thirsty, have a refreshment near by.  Having quick access to water will help you sleep better, you won’t have to get up and disturb your sleep rhythm.

Fitness Trackers

Purchasing a fitness tracker that has sleep monitoring features can help you get extra sleep.   While you sleep, it will keep track of what’s going on while you slumber. Having personal data is fun and with this data you can make adjustments to your schedule.   This data can help you fall asleep not by telling you how many times you woke up, but because you can have a gentle reminder from your phone or your wrist telling you it’s time.  Just practice the habit of following through.

Have faith in an alarm

Setting alarms and trusting them will put your mind at ease.  When your mind is working, sleep isn’t going to come any easier. Be mindful to turn on the alarm, and let it do what it was created to do. I suggest placing the alarm further far away, but not to far that you can’t hear it. The Snooze can be very counter productive. Just relax, and seep into comfort.. The alarms will help you sleep better by removing worry of waking up on time from you brain.

Remove as much light

Hiding all sources of light will help you get better sleep. Alarm clocks,  window and door way light. all disrupt a solid sleep. Waking up in the midst of sleep is all to common,  our brains get active when we see how much time the alarm clock displays. Blacking out the room will trick your mind when you wake up; you’ll see nothing as of your eyes never opened.  Basic instinct will be just to go back to sleep; nothing to see here.

Distance the phone

Keep your phone away from the bed.  That quick swipe or few more pages on our social media can lead to a fifteen or twenty minutes off of our precious sleep. If we remind our bodies that the bed is for sleeping and not our phones, you will get better sleep when you body comes to its favorite sleeping spot.

Music

Wordless music such as classical, electric, edm and instrumentals are a great way to fall asleep.  Our favorite songs with words can cause us to start thinking of things other than sleep. Thoughts keep us from falling asleep.

Ear Plugs

Using ear plugs will help you sleep better.  Ear plugs do great blocking out most sound. From snoring partners, noisy roommates, or the outside world that wants in, ear plugs are your sound shield.  Research further before applying.

Cover your feet

Sleep with socks on.   Something about keeping your feet warm and comfortable, makes falling asleep such a success.  Humans are endothermic, which means our body temperatures are self regulating and consistent. I wouldn’t be surprised if the socks on method helps you fall asleep by taking some of the work off of the body during sleep.

Fitness tip:

On days that I don’t get at least six hours of sleep, i won’t hit the morning gym.  I like to give 100% when it comes to taking care of my health. My prep, cleanliness, workouts and social life is much better with a solid night’s rest.
